Intelligent, gentle and versatile — Arabians shaped by the Crabbet tradition of temperament, soundness and a true bond with people.
The story of the Crabbet Arabian began in 1878, when British aristocrats Lady Anne and Wilfrid Blunt established the Crabbet Park Stud in England. Their deep appreciation for Arabian horses led them to travel through the Middle East in search of exceptional Bedouin-bred horses.
Fluent in Arabic and respected by the people they met, the Blunts were able to acquire purebred horses of remarkable quality. Their breeding program was founded on a strong respect for pedigree, soundness, endurance, intelligence, and the qualities that had made Arabian horses so highly valued for generations.
Their daughter, Lady Wentworth, continued the breeding tradition at Crabbet Park, as did those who followed. Over nearly a century, Crabbet breeders worked to preserve the beauty and spirit of the Arabian horse while also placing great importance on temperament, conformation, athletic ability, and usefulness. Today, Crabbet-line Arabians are found around the world and remain highly regarded for their versatility, intelligence, and close connection with people.
Our purebred Arabians are influenced by bloodlines prized for their intelligence, soundness, and gentle, people-oriented personalities.
Refined, kind and people-oriented, contributing elegance and a willing temperament.
Athletic and correct, known for sound conformation and expressive movement.
Substance, endurance and gentle disposition — a trusted, versatile partner.
One of the qualities most often associated with Crabbet Arabians is their temperament. They are known for being attentive, willing, affectionate, and strongly people-oriented. Their intelligence and desire to work with their owners make them suitable for a wide variety of riders. Many have proven themselves to be patient and dependable partners for young riders, while also having the athleticism and energy required for more demanding disciplines.
Crabbet Arabians are often described as horses that genuinely want to please. With thoughtful handling and training, they can form very strong relationships with the people who care for them.
Crabbet Arabians have a long history as capable performance horses. Their endurance, responsiveness, soundness, and willingness to work have made them successful in many different disciplines. Today, Crabbet-line horses can be found participating in trail riding, endurance, dressage, racing, working cattle, fox hunting, and many other equestrian activities.
Their influence can also be found in crosses with breeds such as Quarter Horses, Morgans, and Thoroughbreds, where their stamina, intelligence, and temperament are often highly valued.
The Crabbet Arabian traces back to carefully selected desert-bred Arabian horses whose qualities were shaped over generations by demanding conditions and thoughtful breeding. These horses became known for being hardy, intelligent, affectionate, and adaptable. Crabbet breeders have continued to place great importance on maintaining those qualities while producing horses that are both beautiful and functional.
Rather than focusing solely on appearance, the Crabbet tradition has remained closely connected to athletic ability, sound conformation, temperament, and usefulness. At Harley Farm, these are the qualities we value most. Our goal is to work with Arabian horses that are enjoyable to live with, responsive under saddle, and capable of becoming trusted companions.
Orion has been sold to a wonderful young lady in Boyds, Maryland, and will love living with his new friends in their spacious pastures. He is a gorgeous, very well-trained Crabbet Arabian gelding who excels at dressage — 15 hands and 11 years old, with upper-level movement that is correct, elegant, and flashy. A real eye-catcher, and a wonderful example of the rare 74% Crabbet bloodline.

Young Orion with friends.
Schooled with Natural Horsemanship and dressage techniques, Orion is very intelligent, sensitive, flexible, and responsive to his rider's cues. He is light on the bit, moves well off the leg, and has lovely gaits. He is wonderful on the trail, alone or in groups, and does not hesitate when asked to jump over logs. His conformation is perfect — beautiful to look at, powerful, and highly functional.
Best suited to an advanced beginner or higher-level rider.
